Planning a boarding school admission in U.P. for 2027-28? Who can apply, the documents to keep ready, the admission steps and the questions boarding families should ask.

Boarding School Admission in Uttar Pradesh 2027-28: Documents, Eligibility and Steps

Admission season for the 2027-28 session is starting in schools across Uttar Pradesh. If you are planning to put your child in a boarding school next year, now is the time to get the paperwork ready, visit campuses and register, before seats in the senior classes fill up. This guide explains how admission works at a CBSE boarding school, using Siddhartha Global School, Malihabad, Lucknow as the example. It covers who can apply, what to bring, the order things happen in, and the questions boarding families should ask that day-school families usually don't need to.

Who can apply

At Siddhartha Global School, registration is open from Nursery to Class XI, for both day scholars and boarders. Families who want their child to stay on campus but are not ready for full boarding can also choose day boarding. The child stays for supervised study and meals and goes home in the evening.

Seats in Classes IX to XI depend on the stream chosen and on the result of an interaction with the child. This is common in CBSE schools, because Class IX begins the two-year run to the Class X board examination and Class XI begins the run to Class XII. Mid-session admission is considered case by case, where a transfer certificate is in order.

Documents to keep ready

Collect these before you visit, because most delays come from a missing certificate rather than from the school:

- The report card of the last class passed, in original
- The child's birth certificate
- A transfer certificate from the previous school, where one applies
- Four recent passport-size photographs of the child
- Aadhaar of the child and of one parent
- For boarders: a recent medical record and the blood group

The last item is what makes boarding admission different. A residential school is responsible for your child's health day and night, so it needs the medical history before the first night in the hostel, not after. If your child has an allergy, a regular medicine or a past illness the infirmary should know about, write it down and hand it in with the form.

The admission steps

Most CBSE boarding schools in Lucknow follow a similar order:

1. Enquiry. Call the admission office or send an enquiry online. Tell them the class, whether you want boarding, day boarding or day schooling, and your city.

2. Campus visit. For a boarding admission, never skip this. See the classrooms, the hostel rooms, the dining hall and the infirmary yourself.

3. Registration and interaction. Fill in the registration form and submit the documents. For senior classes, the child meets teachers for an interaction.

4. Confirmation and fees. Once the seat is offered, the fee is deposited and the joining date is given. Boarders also receive the list of things to bring for the hostel.

Read the fee structure carefully

A boarding fee is made up of several parts. Ask for the fee structure in writing and check what is and isn't included. At Siddhartha Global School the fee structure is published as a PDF on the Admission and Downloads pages rather than quoted over the phone. Transport, hostel, examination fees, uniform and books are listed separately, so the annual total is the amount you will actually pay. Compare schools on that total, not on the tuition line alone.

Questions boarding families should ask

When you visit, ask about the things that will shape your child's daily life:

- Who supervises evening study? Is it a subject teacher or only a warden?
- Is there a resident nurse and an infirmary on campus? Is a doctor on call at night?
- How many children share a room, and does each have a study table and lockable storage?
- What do boarders do in the late afternoon?
- How and when can parents speak to their child, and when can they visit?

At our hostel, two hours of evening prep are supervised by a subject teacher on the floor. The infirmary has a resident nurse, an isolation room and a doctor on call, with a vehicle available at any hour. Rooms are furnished with a bed, study table and lockable storage for each child. At four o'clock every boarder is on a ground or in an activity room, including the cricket academy on campus.

Why apply early

Boarding seats are limited by the number of beds in the hostel, not just by classroom size. Families who register early get a wider choice of class section and stream, more time to settle the child before the session begins, and a calmer start to the year.
